There is a claim of near consensus among saints, Church Fathers, and Doctors of the Church that most people will be damned. A sermon by St. Leonard of Port Maurice seems to point in this direction. Our Lord Himself made clear in Luke 13:24: "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to."
I know that there is no definitive Church teaching here, but reason, Scripture, and Tradition seem to hold that most people will go to hell. Is it sound to believe it? And if so, how is it possible not to be anxious and to despair, if not for ourselves, at least for/on behalf of the great majority of "others"?
