Will there be 1000 Cardinals in the Church?

I have always wondered why the Pope set an age limit on being able to vote in conclave. Does this have any historical precedent in the Church?

It’s not a change I would have made, but my opinion wasn’t sought :face_with_monocle:

I wouldn’t worry about how many cardinals any Pope is creating vs what types of cardinals are being put in position to vote for future popes. The recent trend has been anything but inspiring.

According to Gigi Catholic, there are currently 216 Cardinals but only 116 are active. There are 119 electors. Cardinals reaching the age of 80 before the day of a Holy See vacancy may not vote in a conclave.

13 Cardinals will be added to the College of Cardinals on 2020.11.28
