Would God have stopped someone from murdering Jesus before the crucifiction?

This evening my wife and I were ready my children tomorrow’s gospel. I made the presumption that God would have stopped anyone who tried to kill Jesus before his crucifiction. I don’t belive that I have ever heard this specific topic address.

Jesus, Himself, prevented himself from being murdered. In several places the people tried to throw him off a cliff, but He passed through their midst because “His time has not come.” HE had always been in control. They only apprehended Him when they did, because He allowed them to do so. It has been said that only love kept him on the cross. Nails alone would not have been strong enough.
