Writing a novel based on a saint's life

I’m a bit of an amateur writer and I’ve been thinking of writing a kind of fictionalised version of a saint’s life (specifically St Patrick). Kind of a ‘based on the true story but with a little artistic licence’ type of situation. Good idea or no? I know that something like this would never be mainstream but I don’t want to be some famous novelist I just want to write good stories.

I think it’s a fine idea if you fictionalize the saint’s name as well. I would suggest not presenting it as a fictionalized life of St. Patrick, but just make up a saint perhaps based on his life. Surely there are many saintly men of that era whose names were lost to time and antiquity.

Good point. I hadn’t thought of that. It was just an idea I had today anyway haha.
